What is the title of your latest book with Xcite?
Two stories in Seriously Sexy 1 – 20 Erotic Stories
When and why did you first start writing erotica?
I first started writing erotica in 1998 as a way to learn how to stop skimming the surface when writing about sex, death, lies and videotapes.
Where do you find your inspiration for your stories?
Mostly by asking what if? and how can? questions. The emotional involvement usually comes first and then I try and go physical.
Do you write in other genres? If so – what are is your most popular or latest book?
I write short stories and am working on a literary romance. My latest book is a collection of stories, Back Burning, published in 2007 by IP, Australia.
Do you have any other jobs as well as writing?
I moonlight by holding writing and communication workshops, translating, academic editing.
How do your friends and family feel about you writing erotica?
They are amused.
How do you enjoy reading erotica? Are you a paperback, ebook or audio book lover?
I’m a paperback reader. Even have a waterproof one for the bath.
Ebooks have made a big impact in the last few years and it has now become very easy for authors to self-publish. Why do you prefer to be published by Xcite Books?
I haven’t got my act together yet to self-publish, as preparations eat into my writing time. Xcite Books has been good to me. I also think that rejections have their place in the learning curve.
How much has the internet helped you reach your readers? Do you enjoy social networking? How can people find you on Facebook and Twitter etc?
AstridL makes rare appearances on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/SylviaAPetter, but she has her own blog at http://astridl.blogspot.com/ I enjoy social networking and tweet as @Mblobs.
What do you feel has been your greatest achievement to date?
I love all my stories and I don’t count in achievements any more. I am more interested in the process.
What would you like to have achieved in 5 years time? What are you doing to help you achieve it?
I don’t do 5-year plans. I hope that I’ll be able to finish my novel, Ambergris this year, but if it takes longer, that’s ok, too. I do want to finish a photo memoir on my mother’s life in craft, though. So it’s really year by year.
If you could have a fantasy dream date who would it be with and what would you do together?
I think I’d like to hang out with the one of the protagonists of my novel, Ambergris. He’s a Frenchman called Gabriel Lacroix, living in Australia, and he pursues cottage industry perfumemaking.
Where is the most unusual place you have had sex?
In my bed.
What is your favourite joke?
The one about two ostrich ladies sticking their heads in the sand just as Mr Ostrich catches up with them.
What keeps you awake at night?
Unfinished business.
Where is your dream holiday destination? Have you been there yet?
The wilds of Sweden in summer. Yes.
In what television show would you most like to be a cast member? Why?
Boston Legal. I’d like to be on the balcony at the end with a cigar and a whisky.
What is your favourite food or recipe?
Oysters natural.
Please add anything here you would like included in the interview.
I’m really all over the place in the space of a mind, hence http://mercsworld.blogspot.com/ and http://mercsworld.tumblr.com/ as well as http://astridl.blogspot.com/
