Interview with Xcite Books author: K.D. Grace

What is the title of your latest book with Xcite? Body Temperature and Rising (Lakeland Heatwave Trilogy) (The Lakeland Trilogy)

When and why did you first start writing erotica?

About four years ago. I wrote a piece for the now defunct Scarlet Magazine’s ‘Cliterature’ section called ‘The Night Bus.’ I wrote another piece for Scarlet, then got my first short story accepted in a Black Lace anthology and I’ve never looked back.

Where do you find your inspiration for your stories?

Everywhere, really. I find inspiration in dreams, in long walks, in mythology,in working in the veg garden, in just watching people being people.

Do you write in other genres? If so – what are is your most popular or latest book?

I write in other genres. I just haven’t been published in other genres :)

Do you have any other jobs as well as writing?

I write. That IS my job, and my entertainment, and my recreation. Oh, and my therapy:)

How do your friends and family feel about you writing erotica?

Everyone has been very supportive. I’ve never hidden what I do from anyone, and I’ve never gotten any negative response, at least not to my face.

How do you enjoy reading erotica? Are you a paperback, ebook or audio book lover?

I like paperbacks and ebooks. I would have a hard time staying focused on an audio book.

Xcite Books have launched a new awards program this year. Do you think this was a good idea? Why?

I think it’s a fantastic idea! I love to see people getting recognition for all their hard work.

Ebooks have made a big impact in the last few years and it has now become very easy for authors to self-publish. Why do you prefer to be published by Xcite Books?

I’m first and foremost a writer of fiction, a story teller. The rest I do because I have to in order to support my work and make sure it gets as much attention as possible. I’m not a publisher. I know nothing about marketing, and I wouldn’t have a clue where to begin. Nor do I want to. I want to write stories and leave the publishing to experts. That way I get the best of both worlds.

How much has the internet helped you reach your readers? Do you enjoy social networking? How can people find you on Facebook and Twitter etc?

I think the internet is an amazing tool for reaching readers. I didn’t enjoy social networking when I first started. At first it frightened me and felt a bit invasive. But when I discovered what a tool it could be, not only for reaching readers, but for connecting with other writers and other creative people and sharing our common experience, well let’s just say I’m a convert. What do you feel has been your greatest achievement to date?

I’d have to say it was having my first novel, ‘The Initiation of Ms Holly,’ published, and having it so well received. The learning curve was off the chart. It was a dream-come-true that brought out every neuroses I’ve ever had and some I didn’t even know I had. They always say be careful what you wish for, you might get it. I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared and so elated and so overwhelmed at the same time. Holly’s initiation was my own initiation, and it was terrifying, wonderful and life-changing. Now, do I sound like a drama queen or what? I’m just saying. It was amazing!

What would you like to have achieved in 5 years time? What are you doing to help you achieve it?

I’d like to publish in other genre as well. I have so many novels in my head, and a few of them have already been written. Mostly I want to have a body of work that I can be proud of, that speaks for itself. I want to be a storyteller’s storyteller.

If you could have a fantasy dream date who would it be with and what would you do together?

My fantasy dream date would be with my outrageously sexy husband. We would don backpacks and walk cross country together. We walked across England last year, and it was the most exciting date EVER! I want to do it again. I actually do fantasize about doing it again.

Where is the most unusual place you have had sex?

On the shores of Derwent Water beneath a full moon.

What keeps you awake at night?

The PR work for my latest novel.

Where is your dream holiday destination? Have you been there yet?

The Lake District. I have been there, but not nearly often enough.

In what television show would you most like to be a cast member? Why?

Don’t watch enough telly to know.

What is your favourite food or recipe?

Coconut Creme Pie! Or taco salad, depending if I’m in the mood for sweets or not.
