What is the title of your latest book with Xcite? Threesome: When One Lover is Not Enough (Xcite Erotica)
When and why did you first start writing erotica?
Sex and sexuality have been so transformative in my life. When I learned to accept my sexuality, and enjoy it, rather than feeling ashamed of it, my whole life changed and became more loving, more connected. I want to help others to find that liberation too.
Where do you find your inspiration for your stories?
In my dreams and fantasies. In people and places that enlighten me. From my own darkness. From my faith.
Do you write in other genres? If so – what are is your most popular or latest book?
Yes, I do! I am a sex columnist at Boston Magazine where I blog about sexual politics each week. I am also a freelance journalist, covering sex and sexuality, and I’ve published lots of literary short stores…but they’re printed under a different name. Aha, does that pique your interest, hm?
Do you have any other jobs as well as writing?
I am a writing instructor, with specialisms in short stories and erotic writing. Apart from that, it’s write, write, write!
How do your friends and family feel about you writing erotica?
My friends *are* my family, and they love it that I write erotica. I live in a wonderfully sex-positive community where I am supported and valued for my sexual creativity and sexual politics. I’m a lucky grrl.
Xcite Books have launched a new awards program this year. Do you think this was a good idea? Why?
Yes! Because sex positivity brings love, enjoyment and community, and the individuals, companies and groups who support us all in this way are nothing less than beautiful.
I love the authors and readers I have met through Xcite, and I feel that you get my work out to a wonderful audience.
How much has the internet helped you reach your readers? Do you enjoy social networking? How can people find you on Facebook and Twitter etc?
Oh my gosh, I love social networking! I’m on Twitter (@foxlana) and yes, Facebook too. I meet so many wonderful readers and writers this way, from all around the world.
What do you feel has been your greatest achievement to date?
Becoming a sex writer and speaking my truth, with pride.
What would you like to have achieved in 5 years time? What are you doing to help you achieve it?
I’d like to publish my novel, “Second Bite of the Cherry”. It is almost complete, so we shall see…
If you could have a fantasy dream date who would it be with and what would you do together?
My fantasy dream date would be someone special I recently met. She’s pretty amazing. But if you mean my *imaginative* dream date, then that would be Rachel Stirling’s Nance in Sarah Waters’ “Tipping the Velvet.” We’d go the music hall, of course! Or maybe Spike in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, during his whole BDSM phase, oh yes. We’d go anywhere dark.
Where is the most unusual place you have had sex?
Under a tree, in the middle of a public park in London. It was raining. Unusual yes, but enjoyable, no! Enjoyable…well that’s another story.
What is your favourite joke?
Why do squirrels swim on their backs? To keep their nuts dry.
What keeps you awake at night?
Stories, stories, stories…
Where is your dream holiday destination? Have you been there yet?
This changes all the time, but right now I’d settle for a gorgeous British inn with a roaring fire in the grate. I live in America, which I adore, but there’s so much I miss about the UK.
In what television show would you most like to be a cast member? Why?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Because it’s all about being a family of friends. And I love it. Just love it. What Whedon has done for sexuality and gender and general self-acceptance is amazing. He’s a hero of mine.
Who is your favourite celebrity? Why?
Anais Nin. I know she’s not alive any more, but I could eat every word she writes.
What is your favourite food or recipe?
Dear heaven, anything with chocolate in it. Lickable works too…
